“He’s got to have a hole in his defense! He’s reading me — he’s predicting my moves. Show me your weak point! I just can’t afford to end here!” Think these lines are from the latest battle shounen? Wrong: they’re from none other than Ping Pong: The Animation! If the theme of table tennis doesn’t pique your interest, looking at the show’s creators certainly should. Masaaki Yuasa, known for making great creative anime, teams up with Taiyou Matsumoto, a mangaka with similar experimental tendencies: the harmless fun-filled game of table tennis suddenly got a whole lot more interesting.
Episode 1: Telepathy
As expected of me, I haven’t been very social with other anime fans and reviewers and can mainly be found in remote areas of the community:
– The Rizon IRC network, of which my main channel for serious discussion is #qd. My nickname is “lpf”.
– (Sometimes) writing reviews of varying quality on MyAnimeList. Here’s my best-received one to date.
– The MyAnimeList club Quiet Discourse. That’s where this blog’s name comes from!
The meaning of “quiet” in the context of this club is open to interpretation, but for the sake of the blog it will materialise my own philosophy: civil, nonconfrontional, and hopefully as thought-provoking as is within my means. My actual relation with anime discussion is not that flawless, so please forgive my low moments!
